Introduction & Role

This month’s Student Spotlight features Monika Jakimova. Monika is a first-year high school student and an active member of the School Parliament. In her role, she contributes ideas, helps decorate the school, informs students about upcoming activities, and supports many other initiatives. In an interview about her experience as a member of Parliament, Monika stated that she was inspired to join her high school parliament to bring her school community together. Being a member of the parliament means a lot to Monika - not only does she learn new things, but she has also made new friends. During her interview, Monika emphasized that “being in the Parliament means A LOT” to her and has allowed her to find a passion for supporting her community.

Responsibilities & Involvement

As a member of Parliament, Monika has many responsibilities. Monika helps plan events like Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Mother’s Day, and more. She enjoys creating and designing inclusive events, especially the school basketball Game. When discussing her favorite parliamentary activities, Monika said, “I enjoy when we organize some school events like the basketball Game where everyone is included”. She also enjoys decorating the school, sharing, “I love holiday decorations. It’s rewarding to hear, ‘Wow, you all did a great job!’ from teachers and students.”

Impact & Community

Her proudest accomplishment is planning the Basketball Game. The basketball game raised funds for charity. Monika shared that “The biggest impression we’ve made was the basketball game… the funds we raised were donated to charity”. She also believes the Parliament brings students together stating, “We all work together as a team…that’s why school parliament helps bring students together.”

Leadership & Growth

Being in Parliament has helped Monika grow in confidence and skills. Monika explained,“I also learned how to be a more open and communicative person, so now I can talk to people and not be worried, what they’re going to say”. She hopes to organize more fun events for the whole school in the future.

Advice & Reflection

Monika encourages anyone thinking of joining Parliament to just go for it. When giving advice to future members she said, “just DO IT”. Monika emphasizes learning, meeting people, and having fun, sharing, “At the first meeting I went alone…now I know everyone, and it’s so good to be part of it. Life without it would be so boring. You will never regret it!”

Conclusion

In conclusion, Monika is a great example of leadership, teamwork, and school spirit. Her enthusiasm, creativity, and confidence show how much one student can positively impact the school community.
